Welcome to the Virginia Animal ID Portal!
On this site you will find information explaining how the National Animal Identification System (NAIS) is being implemented in Virginia. NAIS is administered in Virginia by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, Office of the State Veterinarian, with support from Virginia Cooperative Extension and many other groups involved in animal agriculture in the Commonwealth.
NAIS is all about animal health. In order to effectively respond to animal disease outbreaks when they occur, animal health officials need to know where animals are housed and when many animals from different locations commingle and are potentially exposed. As in all emergencies, quick response means fewer impacts and faster time to recovery for production facilities, markets, events, farm communities - and your animals.
